Bonfire is exactly what I want from a thriller: a well-plotted mystery with a self-reliant yet flawed heroine that delivers an intense, satisfying payoff. It’s like Sharp Objects meets The Fever. While deftly unwinding the central mystery, Ritter also portrays the claustrophobia and lack of privacy that comes with growing up in a small town.  · With tantalizing twists, slow-burning suspense, and a remote rural town of just five claustrophobic square miles, Bonfire is a dark exploration of what happens when your past and present collide. Still, I adore Krysten Ritter and couldn't talk myself out of Bonfire. I don't read a lot of thrillers, but I do read some, and I love one that's well-written. I think I need to come at this book from two different angles - technique, and entertainment. From a technique perspective, Bonfire reads very much like a debut. As it happens, Bonfire has received generally favorable reviews, if not particularly enthusiastic, since its October release. The tricky part is trying to determine how many of these favorable reviews stem from an appreciation for Krysten Ritter and how many actually stem from enjoyment of the book itself. Bonfire is a dark, suspenseful and at times a gritty read. All of this is thanks to the solid writing skills of Krysten Ritter. Bonfire introduces you to Abby Williams, an environmental lawyer living out of Chicago. Abby is sentenced back to her ghosted past in Indiana, to investigate an environment issue involving a corrupt corporation.

My review of actress Krysten Ritter's debut novel 'Bonfire'. Bonfire tells the story of Abby Williams who returns to her small town home of Barrens determine. Praise for Bonfire “I burned through Krysten Ritter’s hugely accomplished debut. Bonfire is dark, disturbing, and compulsively readable.”—Ruth Ware, bestselling author of The Woman in Cabin 10 “The Jessica Jones star makes an auspicious literary debut with Bonfire, spinning a suspenseful, psychologically gripping story.”. “[Ritter brings an] unconventional, edgy approach to her engrossing suspense novel, Bonfire. Deliciously moody with a noirish undertone, Bonfire ignites a first-rate mystery resplendent with shadowy scenery, a tight plot and a lead character that is both fragile and strong.
