David Eddings is a popular and famous author, but this book is terrible. First, the depiction of women is cliche and sexist, regardless of their age. Pawn of Prophecy. The book opens with a brief prologue concerning past events, from the creation of the world by seven gods, through the recovery of the Orb of Aldur by Belgarath the Sorcerer, King Cherek, and his children. It explains how Cherek's youngest son Riva was able to hold the Orb while no one else was; thus all of his descendants. Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings is a classic in the epic fantasy realm. I read them as a kid but only recently have enjoyed the first in the series as an audiobook. Here is my review. While the premise to Pawn of Prophecy is pretty basic (ancient evil is awakening and a Chosen One may be our only salvation), I still enjoyed it. Best-selling authors David and Leigh Eddings welcome fans back to the time before The Belgariad and The Malloreon series. Join them as they chronicle that fateful conflict between two mortally opposed Destinies, in a monumental war of men and kings and gods.
